Tip # 16: Water Bars Aren't As Much Fun

A water bar is used when the trail grade gets too steep or there is too much water flow for a rolling dip drain to be effective. The actually block the flow of water and channel it off the trail. They can be constructed with rocks, logs, or dirt. Dirt water bars typically do not last too long. Rolling dips are preferable to water bars whenever possible because trail user safety and trail aesthetics.
